Sandalwood and salt for purification?

I'm going to be purifying and adding my energies to my pentacle tonight. I know that sandalwood is used for psychic awareness, and salt is used for purification. If I use the sandalwood in conjunction with the salt, will they counteract each other? I'm rededicating myself to Wicca, and I was just curious.
